Here is a brief update on the Casta Del Sol Golf Course Issue. The three HOA’s surrounding the golf course and several Mission Viejo residents attended the Mission Viejo Lake Association's February board meeting. At the board meeting a presentation was made to see if the board would consider the idea of becoming the Mission Viejo Lake and Golf Association.
The board expressed much sympathy to our cause and was in favor of preserving the golf course, but the lake association would not be able to help for several reasons. The first reason is because the Lake Association is a non-profit and could not keep that status running a for profit golf course. Secondly, the initiative would need to be approved by 75% of the Lake Association's membership and 75% of the membership would have to vote. These high numbers would make winning a voting impossible, due to past experiences in lake membership voting when only about 30% of the membership mailed back votes.
A meeting also took place between Sunrise and American Golf. This meeting got much press from the news and from the Mission Viejo city council. No agreement or compromise was made and there are no plans for another meeting. Our position is still to keep the golf course as is with no changes.
The Friends of the Casta Del Sol Golf Course still needs people to help gather signatures. If you are interested in becoming a friend of the Casta Del Sol Golf Course and helping to preserve it please feel free to contact us and join us for one of our meetings.
The Friends of the Casta Del Sol Golf Course is looking into a couple other viable options to preserve the golf course and we will make announcements about those in the weeks to come.

Momentum Update
To date over 1200 names and signatures have been collected, over 300 people have looked at the website in 4 days, and we have had over 80 people sign our online petition. Emails of support keep coming in to save our golf course.
We are having a logistics meeting with several HOA's in Mission Viejo this week in which we are going to be planning a general meeting for those wishing to help out at the end of this month. Stay tuned for updates on the date and time of that meeting.
We are encouraging all to email the city council and let them know you want the Golf Course to Stay.

About the Petition
The online petition is to help gather email addresses so that when this issue goes before the city council we will be able to have a huge turn out at the city council meeting. It also makes a statement in a small community to the city council and to the developer who is trying to come into the community and destroy a city icon.
We have written petitions going around to residents and to businesses in the community. If you would like to canvass your local neighborhood and gather signatures please email and ask to help out.

Problems with Losing the Golf Course
The City of Mission Viejo is going to lose an icon, which has been in the city since its inception, if a zoning change takes place to approve Sunrise Senior Living’s concept of building assisted living housing at the Casta Del Sol Golf Course. This act will affect the landscape of our community for future generations.
The Casta Del Sol Golf course is frequented by a large group of seniors and by many avid golfers in Mission Viejo. If our city council sells out to developers, seniors and golfers alike will have to drive further to play golf at courses similar in price or they can pay up to $100 more to play at other courses near buy.
The impact would be felt by thousands of households in Mission Viejo who play at Casta Del Sol for its location, good price, and ability to play the course quickly. It is a family friendly environment that many kids have used to learn how to play golf.
Approving the Zoning Change would go against the City of Mission Viejo's Master plan which is something not to be taken lightly. If the city regularly changes zoning every time a developer would like them to, then what is the point of being a master planned community? The property was designed to be a golf course and it should stay that way even if it is municipalized.
The loss of the Casta Del Sol Golf course will also impact school golf teams from the Mission Viejo area. The Casta Del Sol Golf course is currently used by the Mission Viejo High School golf team.
A zoning change hurts the Rotary Club of Mission Viejo which meets at the Club house.
A zoning change hurts the Lions Club of Mission Viejo which meets at the Club house.
A zoning change hurts the Residents surrounding the golf course due to the increased traffic from the assisted living complex and loss of property values.
A zoning change hurts Mission Viejo Residents who have enjoyed a nice view of a green golf course which would be traded for a view of high density senior housing.
A Zoning Change hurts Mission Viejo and is the wrong direction for our city to take. Please sign the petition and tell our city council not approve the zoning change or to allow the voters to vote on the issue.
THIS WEBSITE IS DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE PETITION TO THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MISSION VIEJO TO ADVOCATE PERPETUALLY PRESERVING THE CASTA DEL SOL GOLF COURSE AS A TOP QUALITY 18 HOLE EXECUTIVE GOLF COURSE, WITH A CLUBHOUSE AND OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE FACILITIES, FOR GENERATIONS TO COME.
